In an effort to get Golden State's disgruntled swingman Stephen Jackson traded as soon as possible, Jackson's agent, Mark Stevens, has gone on the offensive, attacking the credibility and character of Warriors coach Don Nelson.
In a telephone interview just moments after the Warriors lost to the Sacramento Kings Sunday night, Stevens lambasted Nelson, criticizing everything from his trustworthiness to his coaching ability. Leaving few stones unturned, Stevens gave his take on some controversies in Nelson's 31-year NBA coaching career.
"No one trusts Don Nelson," Stevens said. "When Nelson was in Milwaukee, Wayne Embry trusted him and brought him in, and he betrayed Embry. In Dallas, Mark Cuban took damn good care of him and his son [Donnie Nelson Jr.], and he betrayed Cuban. In Golden State, Chris Mullin hired him and trusted him and Nelson backstabbed him by reaching out to president Robert Rowell and blaming Mullin for everything that was going wrong with the Warriors."
Stevens was referring to claims by Embry, the first African-American general manager in professional sports, that Nelson made a racist remark after Embry gave him his first coaching position with the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1970s. Nelson vehemently denied making the remark.
Nelson sued Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner, after Nelson was hired to coach the Warriors in 2006. Nelson, who resigned as the Mavericks coach in 2004, sought deferred money he claimed to be owed from Dallas' previous owner, Ross Perot Jr. The feud turned ugly and an arbitrator ruled Cuban had to pay Nelson $6.3 million.
Mullin, who played for Nelson during the coach's first stint in Golden State in the 1990s, hired Nelson to return to the Warriors after Mullin had become the club's general manger. But the relationship between Mullin and Nelson soon soured and Mullin's contract was not renewed after last season.
Stevens did not hide his motives for disparaging Nelson, who needs just 23 wins to move past Lenny Wilkens as the NBA's all-time winningest coach. He wants Jackson, who demanded a trade over the summer, out of Golden State as soon as possible. While the Warriors have said they will seek a trade, Stevens, and presumably Jackson, has grown tired of waiting.
When he made his initial request in August, Jackson said he wanted to be traded to Cleveland, New York or any of the three teams in Texas (Dallas, San Antonio and Houston). Jackson was fined $25,000 by the league for publicly requesting a trade.
Now Stevens says anywhere will do.
"I just want him out of there now," Stevens said. "It doesn't matter where. At this stage, something has to be done. It can't get any worse."
Cleveland, Miami, Denver and Charlotte have been mentioned as possible destinations for Jackson.
As recently as October, Jackson was a Warriors captain. But during a preseason game against the Lakers, Jackson picked up five fouls and a technical in fewer than 10 minutes and was pulled from the game. He had a testy exchange with Nelson on the floor and was sent to the locker room. He was then stripped of his captaincy.
Stevens said his anger over his client's situation grew while he was watching the Warriors lose 120-107 to the Kings. It was Golden State's fourth loss in five games this season. Jackson led all Warriors scorers with 21 points.
"I'm disgusted with the quality of Nelson's coaching and with the lack of trust his players have in him," he said. "Nelson is the winningest coach in NBA history to never have coached in the NBA Finals, let alone won a championship. Yet he keeps getting jobs despite being 69 years old."
Jackson came to the Warriors in a 2007 trade with the Indiana Pacers. No stranger to controversy himself, he was suspended 30 games for his role in the 2004 Pacers-Pistons brawl at The Palace at of Auburn Hills. But he's put up his best numbers for the Warriors, last year averaging 20.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists.
Stevens blamed Nelson for the breakup of the promising Warriors team that upset top-seeded Dallas in the first round of the 2007 playoffs. The breakup of that squad is one of the main reasons Jackson wants to go elsewhere, according to his agent.
"Chris Mullin wanted to re-sign Baron Davis, but Nelson nipped that in the bud," Stevens said. "Then he helped put together the trade that got rid of Jason Richardson. Then the Warriors lost Matt Barnes. Nelson loses the trust of all his players."
Warriors general manager Larry Riley could not be reached for comment. _________________

Memphis Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley has shot down the idea that Allen Iverson is mulling retirement as he takes an indefinite leave of absence for a personal matter.
Frustration stemming from his reserve role combined with the stress related to a recent family issue has caused Iverson to consider hanging up his jersey for good, The Commercial Appeal of Memphis reported Monday morning.
But Heisley said there was no indication of such consideration by the 34-year-old guard, and the owner told the newspaper that "if he was going to retire, he'd tell me first."
Iverson returned to his home in Atlanta late last week with Heisley's permission.
"I expect him to come back," Heisley said. "If he does retire, I'll be tremendously disappointed. I feel bad because I don't think that's the way he should go out."
Iverson has played in three games since returning from a hamstring injury, averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 assists and 22.3 minutes. But he has expressed displeasure over coming off the bench thus far this season.
"It's something that I never did in my life, so obviously it's a big adjustment," he said last week. "I'm so tired of discussing that, talking about that, every single day. It's just not something that I want to discuss."
Iverson has also acknowledged he had become a distraction.
"When I hear anything about the Memphis Grizzlies, I don't hear you guys talk about anything other than the situation with me coming off the bench," he said Friday. "I mean, there's got to be something else with this team to talk about besides that. But I guess that sells a lot better than anything else when it comes to this team."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. _________________

The Nets fired Lawrence Frank after leading his team to the futility mark of 0-17................they're playing the Mavs on Wednesday so it's safe to say that the new loss record is all but theirs. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. I'm waiting for the Bulls to start their next head coach watch. Every year after the circus trip the team flounders and then picks it up after New Years. _________________

Tyrus Thomas was suspended for Saturday's for conduct detrimental to the team.
I'm wondering when the Bulls are going to dump this chump. _________________

Over the All-Star Weekend, the Wiz dealt Caron Bulter, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to the Dallas Mavericks for Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Ouinton Ross and James Singleton. So, the demolition of the team starts..........the Mavs seem to have gotten the better of the deal as they gained a solid second or third scoring option, a couple of good perimeter defenders along with a solid interior presence in Haywood; which they hope will lead them into better contention with the other Western Conference superpowers come playoff time. On our end, Josh Howard is a do-it-all type of guy but his durability and attitude have been questioned over the past couple of seasons and Gooden seems to only show up with his 'A' game every few nights.
In addition, Amar'e Stoudemire trade talks have heated back up with the Cavaliers reportedly trying to make something happen. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things are dead, behold; all things are created new."

The Clippers dealt Marcus Camby to the Portland Trail Blazers for Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake to fortify a front-line which has been devastated by injuries over the course of the season. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. The Wizards continue with the demolition phase by dealing away Antawn Jamison in a three-team trade involving the Wiz, the Clippers, and the Cavaliers. The Cavs get Jamison and Sebastian Telfair, the Clippers get Drew Gooden, the Wizards get Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the rights to Emir Prelzdic, a 2010 1st-Round Pick from the Cavs and Al Thornton. What the Cavs had in mind was getting a solid second option that would keep LeBron in Cleveland after the 2010 season, and Jamison brings a lot to the table that can help his team win. In other news, the Rockets are trying to make a deal for T-Mac and reportedly they are trying to set up a three-team deal involving the Kings and the Knicks. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. I guess with Arenas out of the picture, there is no real reason to try and put together a competitive team. Oh well, hopfully they don't sink down too far into the crapper. _________________

Me too.....they actually have a lot of good young players. Hopefully, they develop over the course of the next couple of years and bring our franchise out of the gutter.
The Bucks dealt Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander to the Bulls for John Salmons and 2011 and 2012 second-round picks with an option to switch 2010 first-round picks providing the Bulls pick between #11 and #30, and in addtion the Bull ship Tyrus Thomas to the Bobcats for Acie Law, Flip Murray and a first-round pick. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. Houston Rockets G/F Tracy McGrady has officially been traded to the New York Knicks along with G Sergio Rodriguez, which sends Knicks Guard Larry Hughes and Forwards Jared Jeffries and Jordan Hill and a 2012 first-round pick to the Rockets who send Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey to Sacramento, and the Kings send scoring machine Kevin Martin to the Rockets. In this deal, New York made some cap space which will give them a chance to go after some of the big name players who will be free agents after this season. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. Wizards Forward Josh Howard is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. It's funny how every move we've been making seems to leave us high and dry in the end.......... _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. Yup, even in spite of all of the injuries the Blazers put their depth to good use as any one of your guys can light it up on any given night. Just goes to show how re-building a team around a few solid pieces can eventually lead to some degree of success. I sure hope the Wiz can rise up a couple of years down the road. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things are dead, behold; all things are created new."

I actually thought the Bulls were onto something good a few years ago. I don't know what happened to throw them back into the crapper. _________________

The funny thing is that with everything that has been going on for them they are still holding on to the 8 spot in the East. What they need is for someone else besides Derrick Rose to produce. _________________ "If one is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things are dead, behold; all things are created new."
