I will say it now, the NHL officials are a bunch of hypocrites. Head on hits are part of the game. When a player is skating with his head down and gets hit and knocked silly, it's not a penalty and doesn't warrant a suspension.
But, when Ladd did it, he was kicked out of the game. Toews gets hit the same way, and no penalty. Call it one way or the other. _________________

That's one of the (many) problems in the NHL, the way the rules are enforced. Sid drops the gloves, gets a few shots in and the refs stop the fight.
Then you have the whole "head" issue. I understand that it's cruel to say; "let them scramble their eggs for our entertainment." But at the same time, these players know the risks when they skate with their head down. |

Amen to that AA. I just think the whole ejecting a player and fining them because the other player is skating with their head down is nonsense. The NHL has done a great job of getting the fans back they lost during the strike, only to start losing them again because their officiating sucks. _________________

To add to the point...
I can remember when if you took a shot at some ones head, you had to own up to it later in the game. But with the "instigator" rule in place... nobody answers for shit! Trust me, take away the "instigator" rule, and you'll see less "head shots" going on.
Oh and you think they are losing fans now... just wait and see how many leave if the players go on strike again when the current CBA is up. Some people are saying it'll be even worse then the last one that cost the fans a whole season! Makes you wonder... will they all leave for the KHL... and take the cup with them? |

I'm still impressed when Toews got hit (and it was clean) that Versteeg of all people went after the player that hit him. Versteeg is a speed midget on the ice, not a fighter! _________________

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed veteran goaltender Manny Legace to a one-year, $500,000 deal, general manager Jim Rutherford said Monday.
The Hurricanes lost starting goalie Cam Ward to injury Saturday for at least a month.
Legace, a 10-year NHL veteran with the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues, has played six games with the AHL's Chicago Wolves this season, logging 317 minutes while going 2-2-1 with a 3.21 goals-against average.
He last played in the NHL for the Blues last season.
Ward, who was hospitalized after his leg was cut by a skate in a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, was set to return to Raleigh, N.C., on Monday and be further examined by the team's head orthopedic doctor.
Legace's deal would pay him $105,000 if he is sent to the minors. The 36-year-old has a career NHL record of 177-92-36.
Information from ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun and The Associated Press was used in this report _________________

The Washington Capitals denied a report Sunday that Alex Ovechkin's return from an upper-body strain will take longer than the original timetable given.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Ovechkin said, "I am better. But I will miss four to five weeks."
"The Washington Capitals dispute the validity of this report," the team told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.
Ovechkin was injured in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Nov. 1. He left the game early in the second period and has not played a game since.
Coach Bruce Boudreau said Tuesday that they were hopeful Ovechkin would not miss more than two weeks.
"I think that it's tough," Ovechkin told Yahoo! Sports. "November has just begun. I need to heal up 100 percent and then play. There is no need to risk right now."
Ovechkin did not specify in the report whether a doctor told him he would be out longer or if it was from his own evaluation.
ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun and the Associated Press contributed to this story. _________________

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Alex Ovechkin says he was joking when he told a reporter over the weekend that he could be out more than a month.
The Washington Capitals star practiced lightly Monday and said he would actually miss about a week.
He hasn't played since leaving a Nov. 1 game against Columbus after he was hurt in a scrum.
The Capitals said last week that Ovechkin, whose 14 goals and 23 points lead the team, was week to week with what they called an upper-body problem. _________________

CHICAGO -- Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews returns to the lineup Monday against the Los Angeles Kings after missing the last six games with apparent concussion-like symptoms.
Ben Eager also is back after missing the last 13 with the same injury. Joel Quenneville says there are no restrictions on either player.
"It was depressing [sitting out], and especially frustrating because it feels like it's something that you can easily play through, but you have to give it a little more time even when you feel like its time to play," Toews said. "I'm ready now."
Toews' return is important for Chicago because the future of another center is in doubt. Quenneville said there was "no progress" with Dave Bolland as he continues to nurse the back problem that has kept him off the ice since last Thursday's game against Phoenix.
Kris Versteeg will take his place for the second consecutive game. _________________

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild right wing Petr Sykora has a concussion and is out indefinitely.
Sykora took a hit to the head in Saturday's win over the Dallas Stars. In his first season with the Wild, Sykora has already missed six games because of a groin injury. He has two goals and one assist in 10 games.
Also, the team says defenseman Kim Johnsson has been cleared to play again after missing the last seven games because of an unspecified upper body injury. The Wild visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. _________________

CHICAGO -- Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville announced after practice on Tuesday that center Dave Bolland will have back surgery this afternoon and be out indefinitely.
Bolland last played on Nov. 5 in Phoenix, and he's been battling back problems since last season. He also missed one other game this year due to back "maintenance."
Bolland signed a five-year contract this summer and was expected to be the second-line center. He also was thought to be Marian Hossa's center when he returned from injury. Instead, Quenneville said he will fill Bolland's role by "committee." Bolland had two goals and four assists in 13 games. _________________

Another one goes down and because of Tallon and his spending we can't do much now, but wait for Hossa to come back and hope Fraser keeps playing strong. _________________

| look on the bright side... at least you have a more respectable team then the Wild (who also has cap issues this year.) But then, we'll have more space after this year... |

We won't. The high first rounds picks seem to all be coming up on contracts this year and the NHL is investigating the Hossa deal and think Tallon tried to circumvent the salary cap. And people wonder why Wirtz removed him? _________________

And the Blackhawks sweep Canada. Flames, Oilers, and Canucks. Now head to San Jose and the return of Hossa to the ice. _________________

The Blackhawks continue to the road magic. San Jose let up thre shorties and Hossa in his Hawks debut had a shorty and a even strenght goal. This team just got scary for the rest of the NHL. _________________
